Spoiler alert! This article contains “Orange is the New Black” season 4 spoilers. Read on if you would like to know what happens next before the new episode airs.

There are hints that Healy (Michael Harney) and Red (Kate Mulgrew) may grow closer, after she helps him with his wife. Mulgrew shared that she will have some interesting moments with Michael Harney. She thinks that it is a deep and edgy kind of friendship. She continued that adding a fine point on it would be wrong. There will also be some moving scenes between the two in Season 4.

E!News reports that Red will also have some interesting moments with Piper (Taylor Schilling). The two share one cell, which means that they will also share it with “others.” According to Mulgrew, Red will have enough after everything is overshared, overburdened and overdone.

In the official trailer, about 100 new inmates have entered Litchfield, which has been turned into a prison for profit. There will expectedly be new conflicts and issues among the women as they adjust in their new environment.

The narrative of Season 4 will focus on the core characters, but there will be a number of new inmates that will affect the overall dynamics. Mulgrew said that the events in the prison will occur in a “cascading, almost kaleidoscopic” manner. Red will keep her secrets in the middle of brewing troubles.

One of the newcomers is Judy King (Blaire Brown), a jailed celebrity chef. The actress described her character as funny and used to having her own way, which can spell trouble in prison. The other inmates will not fully understand how to deal with a famous person being inside with them, so there will be both good and bad responses.

The Guardian writes that, according to showrunner Jenji Kohan, the series will still feature comedy, but showcase a darker and more cynical plot. She described the real state of women in prison while writing the show, explaining that many are unfairly treated. She added that it is troubling how some unfairly end up in jail and get treated in various ways.

“Orange Is the New Black” Season 4 will launch on June 17 on Netflix. More updates and details are expected soon.
