Rumours are rife that the second smartphone OnePlus is working is on will be launched in October. Speculations suggest that it will not be featuring flagship specs, but it will be arriving with an impressive design to attract users.

According to Gizmo China, a tipster from the partner factories of the OnePlus has revealed that the new handset will be called OnePlus X. The OnePlus X is expected to feature the Snapdragon 801 chipset that includes a quad-core processor. It will not be a phablet device like the OnePlus 2, as it will be coming with a 5-inch display. The OnePlus One smartphone released in 2014 featured the Snapdragon 801 chipset. The same SoC powers older flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Sony Xperia Z1.

The design of the OnePlus 2 is similar to the OnePlus One handset from last year. However, the OnePlus X will be coming with a different design. Previously leaked photos of the OnePlus X had revealed that it will be coming with a smooth rear that comprises a dual camera module and a fingerprint scanner. The OnePlus 2 has a fingerprint sensor on the front side of the device embedded inside the Home button.

Even though Carl Pei, the co-founder of OnePlus, had proclaimed earlier that the next OnePlus would arrive by the end of 2015, fresh rumours suggest that it will be launched as early as October. Early speculations also indicate that the OnePlus X will be a very affordable phone as it is expected to be priced around US$249 (AUD$352).

It is not clear whether the OnePlus X will be directly available for purchase or users will have to buy it through the infamous invite system. As of this writing, there is no confirmation from OnePlus on the rear moniker and specifications of the upcoming OnePlus smartphone.
