Nokia has propelled the entire world into nostalgic frenzy with the relaunch of the Nokia 3310. Once the biosphere’s most popular phone, the 3310 has now been rebooted into a sleeker, more colourful handset. Here are the main differences between the old Nokia 3310 and the new version.

Old Nokia 3310 vs New Nokia 3310 – Network

While both the new and old 3310 models are 2G capable, only the 2017 version has GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) and EDGE (Enhanced Data for Global Evolution) support. The new 3310 also has a dual SIM model, which the older unit didn’t have.

Nokia 3310 (2000) vs Nokia 3310 (2017) – Display

The new Nokia 3310 furnishes a 2.4-inch TFT display with a 240 x 320 resolution. The old 3310, meanwhile, sports a 1.5-inch monochrome graphic screen with a 84 x 48 resolution.

Old Nokia 3310 vs New Nokia 3310 – Body

The 2017 version of the 3310 is slimmer and lighter (at 4.55 x 2.01 x 0.50 inches and just under 80 grams) compared to the old model (4.45 x 1.89 x 0.87 inches and 133 grams). The new version is available in four colours (glossy warm red, glossy yellow, matte dark blue and matte grey) while the old 3310 has exchangeable front and back covers of various shades and designs.

Nokia 3310 (2000) vs Nokia 3310 (2017) – Memory and connectivity

The new model has a 3.5 mm headphone jack, which the old version lacks. The Nokia 3310 reboot also has a dedicated micoSD slot that is expandable up to 32 GB along with its 16 MB internal storage.

Old Nokia 3310 vs New Nokia 3310 – Camera and sound

The 2000 version of the 3310 handset doesn’t have a camera at all as it wasn’t really a necessity back then. It also lacks MP3 and polyphonic ringtone support, although it does have a composer. The 2017 model, on the other hand, has a 2 MP rear camera and can play more than just monophonic alerts.

Nokia 3310 (2000) vs Nokia 3310 (2017) – Battery

The new Nokia 3310 packs a 1,200 mAh removable lithium-ion battery that provides up to 744 hours of standby time or 22 hours of talk time. Meanwhile, the 17-year-old unit sports a 900 mAh removable NiMH BMC-3 battery that can last up to 260 hours on standby or 4.5 hours of phone calls.

Old Nokia 3310 vs New Nokia 3310 – Snake and features

While the relaunched Nokia 3310 includes an updated Snake game, it isn’t considerably better than the older version. It’s a bit more complicated than the 2000 game, which was fantastically plain and incredibly simple. Radio, Bluetooth and microUSB 2.0 support are also included on the new handset, but it remains to be seen if it’s indestructible like the old Nokia 3310.

Nokia 3310 (2000) vs Nokia 3310 (2017) – Price

The Nokia 3310 reboot has a €49 (AU$68) price tag, which is absolutely cheap. Back in 2000, the old Nokia 3310 was sold for around £130 (AU$210), which is currently the cost of most entry-level smartphones.
