With the movie “Life on the Road” coming soon, Ricky Gervais has dropped a two-minute-long music video, which features fictional character Brent singing out his life as a travelling toiletry salesman.

“Life on the Road” is a feature length film that picks up the story of a beloved character David Brent from the comedy sitcom “The Office.” The UK mockumentary was a popular sitcom that told the story of the day-to-day lives of office employees in the fictitious Wernham Hogg Paper Company. Gervais played the central character David Brent, the general manager of the company. The series' comedic skits often revolved in Brent’s attempts to win favour with his employees which just often led to awkward or disastrous results.

Now, 12 years later in “Life on the Road,” Brent has quit his job and became a travelling toiletry salesman. He’s also supposedly chasing his dream of becoming a rock star, even starting his self-financed UK tour “Foregone Conclusion” with his band.

“Half a tank should get me to Milbank / I fill her up and head down to Sidcup,” Gervais sings in the music video. “It's just demeaning. It's only fleeting / It's just a pitch and then I'm off to Ipswich.”

Gervais reportedly pitched “Life on the Road” to a music executive, the song will be featured in the upcoming movie with the same title. The comedian said the track is about his day job, a rep selling cleaning products.

“Not just cleaning products, obviously. All your toiletry needs. We do tampon dispensers, urinal lozenges, you name it,” Gervais shared. “It’s called Life on the Road.”

Gervais further emphasised that this comedy movie will delve more into the private life of David Brent that wasn’t done in “The Office.” He said that people can expect to know and learn more about Brent who he described as an “extraordinary, ordinary man.”

"Life on the Road" is slated for UK cinema release on Aug. 19. The Australian premiere for the comedy film will be on Aug.25.
