Virtual reality gamers who have been waiting for the Oculus Rift have reportedly gotten even more excited when Oculus founder Palmer Luckey seemed to have alluded that their product might not block any adult content.

Variety has stated that when he spoke at the recent Silicon Valley Virtual Reality Conference, which was held in San Jose, California, he told everyone, “The Rift is an open platform. We do not control what software can run on it.”

As CNET has pointed out, this was relatively surprising, considering that Oculus is owned by Facebook – a company that has a very complicated relationship with the depiction of some human body parts. What Facebook would have immediately banned, Oculus will seem to allow.

However, it must be noted, though, that Oculus will only curate its apps through the Oculus Store. That said, they will only be distributing media content that is in accordance with their Terms of Service. Although there was no direct reference to virtual reality pornography, one particular term discussed content.

“We reserve the right, in our sole discretion and where technically feasible, to disable your access to Content that we believe presents a health and safety risk or violates our community standards, agreements, laws, regulations, or policies.”

The community standards for Oculus have not been specified, but Facebook, meanwhile, had a list of its own community standards to follow.

Oculus may not have followed Google’s direct opposition to the notion of pornography for its Google Glass, it would appear that Oculus may still do something about it after all – despite being an “open platform.” Still, though, it must be noted that there is a highly noticeable difference between the people at Oculus and the executives at Facebook. Some may have wondered whether or not Luckey got an earful from Facebook for being open to virtual reality pornography.
