The Japan-made NuAns Neo Reloaded is an innovative smartphone that allows its user to customise the device with interchangeable panels. It runs on Android, packs a robust battery and looks stunning. Units of the handset start shipping in September of this year.

The contemporary smartphone furnishes a 5.2-inch full HD display with a 1,920 x 1,080 pixel resolution and 428 PPI pixel density. It equips the latest model of Asahi Glass Dragontrail Pro, which has an anti-fingerprint coating. And just like the iPhone, it also has a fingerprint sensor for easy unlocking.

The Neo Reloaded packs a Snapdragon 625 (MSM8953) 2.0 GHz octa-core chipset with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB internal storage. An external microSD slot is also available that is expandable up to 1 TB. It houses a 3,540 mAh battery that supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0, which allows the phone to reach up to 70 percent in just 60 minutes of plug time.

The NuAns handset makes use of Sony backside illuminated CMOS sensors for both its front and back cameras. It has a 13 MP f/2.0 (28 mm) main shooter and an 8 MP f/2.2 (24 mm) selfie snapper. The device has an IP54 rating, so it’s certified dust-proof and water resistant.

What makes the Neo phone different from other devices, though, is its aesthetic uniqueness. Its maker made it a point to put an emphasis on its appearance and texture, not just its functionality. The phone can be personalised in a number of ways, with a slew of materials.

“Aside from existing materials such as tennâge, clarino and ultrasuede, we added four additional materials: cork, denim, dotted ultrasuede and stone to complement to your ‘texture’ sensation,” says the innovative handset’s maker. “This is our concept for NuAns Neo Reloaded, to deliver genuine touch, texture and colour to your everyday hand-held device.”

The Twotone covers are separate, interchangeable panels that are artfully crafted using different textures and colours. The Neo Reloaded has over 600 Twotone cover combinations to choose from. There’s also the Flip cover, which makes the phone look like a notebook rather than a conventional digital device, and it can even store multiple cards inside it.

“We came up with an unconventional exterior design called Flip that has two card pockets and a large storage pocket, apart from the backside IC card storage space,” declares the NuAns team. “It even doubles up as a hands-free stand ideal for watching movies. Aside from that, the smartphone automatically turns on when the Flip lid is opened and goes to sleep mode when closed.”

The NuAns Neo Reloaded carries a US$445 (AU$590) price tag. It starts shipping in September.
