NSW resident faces charges over unauthorised surgery to remove man’s testicle
The testicle plays a very important role in a man’s fertility that a recent study found a link between the time puberty started and the quality of his semen as well as size of testicles. An Australian man who had a medical issue with his testicles but had financial problems only worsened his condition by seeking help online.
The 52-year-old male from Port Macquarie posted an online advertisement seeking assistance for his medical problem, the Sydney Morning Herald reports. Allan George Matthews, from Glen Innes in the Northern Tablelands, responded to the ad.
The two men met at a Port Macquarie motel where 56-year-old Matthews, who was neither a qualified health care worker nor a registered doctor, allegedly performed the surgery. He removed the victim’s left testicle. However, a week after the procedure, the victim went to a hospital for treatment of the wound caused by the surgery, reports 9News.
Doctors notified authorities and the police investigated the incident and confiscated on Thursday medical equipment, electronic gadgets, seven firearms and four bottles of liquid from Matthews’ residence in Glen Innes. The liquid, believed to be amyl nitrate, as well as the other seized items would go through forensic examinations.
Matthews was arrested and charged with several offences, including assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and not keeping his firearms safe. He is out on conditional bail and slated to appear at the Port Macquarie Local Court on July 13.
In 2008, a Dutch man whose testicles were removed by accident shared in a TV interview the effect of the surgery on his manhood.
