Premier Mike Baird almost knocked himself out after falling from his staircase and fracturing his spine in the process.

Baird shared on social media a photo of his bone scan showing fractured vertebrae. He even published a note directed at himself saying, “When fetching a glass of water late at night, don’t walk down the stairs in your socks with the lights out.”

Baird assured his Facebook followers that there is no need for him to undergo surgery for the fracture but admitted that recovery is “slowish.”

“Yeah, I know… The punchlines for this pretty much write themselves… Knock yourselves out (I almost did!),” he wrote.

Baird offered no further details about the accident but his prior Facebook post suggest that it happened between Aug. 21 and Aug. 22. On Sunday, the 44th premier of New South Wales published a photo with son Luke following a weekend sporting event.

Baird lives in northern Sydney with wife Kerryn and their three children Laura, Cate and Luke.
