Residents of Mount Forest Road near the Kybeyan Valley, west of Tuross River Road were asked to be vigilant and ready for evacuation as a raging fire has been spotted in the area.

Those living at the Dangelong, Numeralla and Countegany were also asked to stay alert throughout the day as the weather conditions predicted might worsen the bushfires

The NSW Rural Fire Service said in an advisory that police had been door-knocking at homes and emergency alert phone warnings had been sent to alert the residents and be aware of the fire activity.

"Firefighters have been working to protect local properties in the area and minimise fire spread by containing spot overs," New South Wales Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said in a news briefing.

Commissioner Fitzsimmons notes that the NSW state still has several hours of dry, difficult conditions ahead. Thus, vigilance and readiness to act should be practiced at all times.

Temperatures at the Southeast NSW are seen to be cooling on Wednesday but could rise up again later in the week. Sydney recorded 42.3 degrees Celsius (108.1 degrees Fahrenheit) on Tuesday, according to the Bureau of Meteorology, which is so far the fifth highest on record.

On Tuesday night, fire hit and damaged the Kings Canyon Resort, which is 200 miles southeast of Alice Springs in central Australia. Some 120 people were evacuated, the Australian newspaper reported.

Opposition leader Tony Abbott, a volunteer fire fighter, had delayed his vacation plans to help put out the blazes near Nowra.
