Nokia is set to launch six to seven Android smartphones before the year is over, but so far, only one such handset has been officially announced, which is the Nokia 6. The upcoming midrange smartphone has increasingly become popular since it was officially revealed despite its run-of-the-mill specs. But Nokia fans that are looking for more flexibility and power need not worry as the world’s former number one phone maker is reportedly brewing just that.

Details about the Nokia P1 have been going around since last year. The handset appeared in renders back in July but was almost too good to be true. Nokia fans can now get their hopes up just a little bit as the rumoured handset just might get its official reveal next month at Mobile World Congress (MWC 2017).

The Nokia P1 is reportedly based on another smartphone, the Sharp Aquos Xx3, which was released a few months ago in Japan according to Russian publication Worket. The Nokia P1 is expected to be much more powerful, though, backed by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 high-end processor, up to 256 GB of internal storage, 6 GB of RAM and a 3,500 mAh battery that has fast charging support. Its 22.6 MP primary shooter is also likely to have Zeiss certification.

The new Nokia handset is expected to furnish a 5.3-inch Gorilla Glass 5 display panel, although the pixel resolution has yet to be confirmed. Phone Arena says it could either be 1080 x 1920 or 1440 x 2560. The Nokia P1 is likely to run on Android’s latest OS, Nougat 7.0.

The 128 GB variant of the Nokia P1 has a projected price tag of US$800 (AU$1,060) while the 256 GB model is expected to be priced around US$950 (AU$1,260). Nokia is set to reveal details of its new smartphones at MWC 2017 along with HMD Global, the company that recently acquired the Finnish phone maker’s commercial licenses for the next 10 years. MWC 2017 will be held in Barcelona between February 27 and March 2.
