Nintendo's next generation console is rumored to be less powerful than rival consoles Sony's PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360.

Anonymous developers spoke to Gamesindustry.biz saying that the Wii U wasn't as powerful as the PS3 or the Xbox 360.

"No, it's not up to the same level," one said. "The graphics are just not as powerful."

"That's true," said another. "It doesn't produce graphics as well as PS3 or 360. There aren't as many shaders, it's not as capable. Sure, some things are better, mostly as a result of it being a more modern design. But overall the Wii U just can't quite keep up."

The Wii U's lack of support for multiple tablet controllers also caused a problem with developers as the system would only allow one player to use the Wii U's input device.

"The whole thing about the tablet controller is that you only get one of them, and you can only use one and it's not completely independent," the source said. "The base console has to be on, and you have to be in range. Other controllers are just Wiimotes, or other Wii controllers. They may change the form actor or looks a bit, but it's the same controller."

Consumers will have to wait until the E3 conference this June to test the Wii U but this initial report could be troubling news for Nintendo. Other developers are much more positive about the upcoming console saying that the Wii U could offer new gameplay elements including support for MMORPG, a first for console gaming.

Funcom's Joel Bylos told the Official Nintendo Magazine that the Wii could be the first console capable of playing MMORPGs well.

"Wii U could be the first real console on which running an MMORPG without compromise is plausible. The controller is perfect for lining up those rows of hotbars that are essential in most MMOs. A customizable touchscreen interface combined with the 3D spatial movement of a console controller could be a winner."

As for when the Wii U will hit the shelves, a report from WiiU Daily says that the Wii U will drop on November 18. The information comes from internal E-mails among employees of a large Japanese video game retailer. The report doesn't mention if the November 18 date is an internal target date for Nintendo or if it's the date the company intends to release the console to the public.
