Nintendo just unveiled its latest console aptly called Nintendo Switch, a home gaming system that doubles as a mobile gaming device. The new hybrid marvel, which was previously under the working moniker “Nintendo NX,” provides single and multiplayer gaming opportunities both at home and in transit.

The Nintendo Switch is something consumers have never seen before, integrating the mobility of a handheld device with the power of a home gaming system.

When at home, the Nintendo Switch can be played like a regular console by simply placing it onto the Switch Dock and hooking up the system to a TV. The system changes over to portable mode in an instant when the Switch tablet is pulled out from its dock. This quick switch feature allows users to experience the same video game thrills whether they are at home or outside. The HD display of the Nintendo Switch also promises to enhance gameplay both on the couch and on-the-go.

The hybrid function of the Nintendo Switch comes into play by separating the detachable Joy-Con controllers from one side or both sides of its body. Each controller can be used by one or two persons. They conveniently snap back into place or may be slid into a Joy-Con Grip accessory to simulate a typical console controller. An optional Pro Controller is also going to be made available.

Nintendo’s new unique system allows multiple Switch consoles to be used together to create instant multiplayer matches.

Reggie Fils-Aime, president and chief operating officer of Nintendo America, said that the Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like, and that the new gaming console will give game developers “new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.”

A handful of notable games appear in the trailer: “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,” “Skyrim,” and a new currently untitled “Mario” game. The Nintendo Switch will make use of game cartridges instead of discs, as shown in the trailer.

The Nintendo Switch will be launched in March 2017. More product details are expected to surface in the coming days, including the price and overall specs.
