More and more details about the much-awaited Nintendo NX console are being revealed as 2016 approaches. New rumours now suggest that the upcoming console by Nintendo will be in production in 2016, and the company is also reportedly eyeing a huge number for unit shipment when the console launches.

Several component suppliers and insiders for the Nintendo NX indicate that the company is gearing itself for developing the console next year. This adds up to the speculation that the Nintendo NX might be revealed at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016. Digitimes reports that the Nintendo NX might be subjected to mass production sometime during the first quarter of 2016.

Nintendo is apparently aiming to ship around 20 million units in 2016, which is a particularly large number considering that its predecessor, the Nintendo Wii U, is not much of a hit among gamers. The report by Digitimes also suggests that the component suppliers for the console expect to ship only around 10 to 12 million units.

Foxconn Electronics is expected to spearhead the production of the console. Other companies involved in the development of the Nintendo NX include Coxon Precise Industrial, Delta Technology, Lingsen Precision Industries, Jentech, Macronix, Nishoku Technology and Pixart Imaging.

The Nintendo NX will be in some tough competition against Microsoft and Sony in 2016 as well. The report also states that there will be 18 million and 13 million units to be shipped for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, respectively.

Another competition for the NX could be the next-gen consoles planned by Sony and Microsoft. Techtimes reports that the two tech giants are already gearing up to release the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Two before 2019 ends. With that in mind, Nintendo could be once again behind in the console wars as the Nintendo NX is planned to compete against the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One only.
