Nina Dobrev and Michael Trevino uttered their emotional goodbyes to their “The Vampire Diaries” family after sucking in helium in a funny video posted in Instagram. The two had devastated thousands of fans after announcing earlier this month that they were officially leaving the series for good.

Dobrev and Trevino had wrapped up their final scenes on the CW series Wednesday afternoon and took a moment to share a few tears and hugs with the people on set, E! News reported. To lighten up the mood, they also taped a short goodbye video together, first sucking in a load of helium before bidding their farewell in high chipmunk voices. “That's a wrap on Elena and Tyler. We were just kids when we started the show and we still are, 6 years later. #TVDFamily,” she captioned the video, which she posted in Instagram.

Their TVD costars have also opened up about the news of them leaving. Michael Malarkey, who plays Enzo in the show have revealed that there were tears shed during the filming of their final scenes, Fnewsen stated. He also said that Dobrev choked up a couple of times while reading her lines for her last episodes and that everyone who were present got a little emotional.

Dobrev, who portrays Elena Gilbert on the vampire series, previously confirmed through a lengthy Instagram message earlier this month that she will be exiting series by the end of the sixth season. Rumors of her departing the show first came to light after spending a weekend getaway with the TVD cast and crew and pictures with the hashtag #ninawewillmissyou were plastered all over social media. The 26-year-old had always believed that Elena’s journey would have only been a six-season adventure and for her, she got the journey of her life time.

Trevino, on the other hand, who plays Tyler Lockwood in the show, is also making an official exit, although executive producer Julie Plec stated that his leaving is less final. “Even though he’s also going to be out in the world exploring new opportunities, we look forward to finding creative ways to make sure he and his character Tyler Lockwood always remain a part of the show,” she said.
