From the Hollywood hottie in “Brokeback Mountain” and “Love and Other Drugs,” actor, Jake Gyllenhaal looks shockingly gaunt and his dramatic weight loss has created a buzz online following his recent public appearance.

Jake turned heads at the 17th Annual Hollywood Film Awards Monday, Oct. 21. It was not for his usual, hottest self like he was in 2010’s “Prince of Persia : The Sands of Time.” It’s the radical change in his physique.

The 32-year old actor debuted his “significantly leaner frame and face than his usual athletic physique,” noted Yahoo!7 News. The Express UK described Jake as “scary-skinny Nightcrawler look.”

And why the new, dramatic look?

Speaking to Us Weekly at the event Monday, Jake revealed that he had to shed 20 pounds for his role in “The Nightcrawler.”

In the film by director, Dan Gilroy, Jake portrays the role of a “struggling freelance crime reporter in the film who discovers the seedy underground world of Los Angeles,” said Yahoo!7 News.

"I knew that my character (Lou) was literally and figuratively hungry, so I played him so he was always a bit hungry,” Jake was quoted as telling Us Weekly by The Express UK.

He continued how he had to lose weight to get into the character.

Jake said, “I've lost probably a little over 20 pounds, something like that... It's no different to getting into character for anything. It's more about believing where you are and being present."

The film began production last Oct. 13. Joining Jake Gyllenhaal in the Gilroy film are Bill Paxton and actress, Rene Russo.
