Henrik Lundqvist is hoping that he’d be healthy from his injury before the start of the National Hockey League, or NHL, postseason. The New York Rangers goaltender was injured in an area near the throat when he was struck by a shot in the Rangers game against the Carolina Hurricanes on Jan. 31, 2015.

Lundqvist, who is 25-11-3 overall this season and 16-4-0 with a 1.82 goals against average in his last 20 games, will be evaluated in two to three weeks according to an ESPN.com report.

"You can't take a risk on this, I have to listen to the doctors. I feel great walking around but I don't want to push this injury.” the 32-year-old Lundqvist said in the article. "It shocked me to hear that I will be out for a while, I'm happy we caught this.”

In a separate report from Stephania Bell also from ESPN, the writer stated that Lundqvist suffered a rare injury in hockey or in any sport. It involves a “direct blow to the neck that resulted in trauma to the soft tissue in the area.” Lundqvist, who will be out at least three weeks, was lucky that a blood vessel was not torn apart, which would have been life-threatening, according to Bell.

Henrik Lundqvist is in his 10th year as a goalie for the Rangers. He has started 39 of 39 games played for New York in the 2014-2015 NHL season. N.Y. currently holds a 31-16 record record for 67 points for third place in the Metropolitan Division of the Eastern Conference. Overall, the Rangers are 6th in the conference.

New York is just 4-4 in the last eight games and 2-2 since back-up Cam Talbot replaced Lundqvist as the starting goalie for the team. The Rangers play four of their next five games on the road with games at Colorado, Arizona, N.Y. Islanders and Buffalo. They face Vancouver in their lone home game in this stretch.
