Chicago Blackhawks forward Daniel Carcillo is suspended for six games by the National Hockey League (NHL) on Monday for cross checking Winnipeg Jets forward Mathieu Perreault. Carcillo will lose over $40,000 worth of salary for the six-game ban.

The suspension was confirmed in an ESPN.com report published last Monday. The incident occurred in the at the 19:50 mark of the second period of the Blackhawks-Jets game last Friday when Carciillo skated from behind of Perreault and then cross checked him with a downward motion connecting his stick to the Jets’ forward left arm. Carcillo was assessed a minor penalty for cross-checking during the game.

"I was just trying to knock him off, you know?" The 29 year old Carcillo said about the incident in the same report. "I didn't think it was very, like, malicious or anything. It was just kind of a hockey play and it was at the end of a shift. I must have just caught him between some padding. I've been hit there before, too. You know it hurts.”

Carcillo’s history played a role in the length of the suspension according to the league’s department of player safety which considered the Blackhawks forward as a repeat offender under the NHL Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Previously he was fined or suspended 11 other times in the past. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

The 27 year old Perrault, who is currently listed as day-to-day, missed the Jets 4-3 win (SO) over the Arizona Coyotes last Sunday and will most likely miss their match-up against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday, according to Jets head coach Paul Maurice.

Perrault has 29 points for the season with 15 goals and 14 assists. Carcillo, who has a total of 7 points this season with 4 goals and 3 assists, have missed games against Dallas and Arizona and will miss match-up with Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Anaheim and San Jose.
