The Indianapolis Colts have released running back Trent Richardson in one of the latest transactions in the 2015 offseason of the National Football League, or NFL. The Colts gave up a first round pick in 2013 to acquire Richardson in a trade with the Cleveland Browns and the Colts part ways with the controversial running back after two disappointing seasons in Indianapolis.

Albert Breer, reporter for the NFL Network, updated the release on Twitter.

"I was expecting this. It just didn't work out. I'm not saying anything bad about the program, but that program just didn't fit me at all. Me and the GM didn't see eye to eye. It was a bad marriage for us.” Richardson said to ESPN.com. Richardson vowed that he’d be in the running for one of the top RBs in the league after his failed stint with the Colts.

"They ruled Marshawn Lynch off in his third year. Look at what he's doing now. My next stop, I'll be the starter. I still have my pride and I know who I am,” Richardson said in the same ESPN article.

Among the issues between the Colts and Richardson were the running back’s problems with his weight and to commit in some of the team’s activities. Richardson, who was the third overall pick by the Browns in the 2012 NFL Draft, was touted as a high-usage player that will help the Colts’ offence but the partnership never worked in Indianapolis.

Richardson had 458 rushing yards on 157 carries with 3 touchdowns in 2013 and 519 rushing yards on 159 carries with 3 touchdowns in 2014 and both numbers considered a disappointment as he did not meet expectations of the Colts’ coaches and front office.
Despite the on and off the field issues, the 24 year old Richardson is expected to draw interest from other NFL teams in the 2015 offseason.
