Veteran quarterback Philip Rivers believes that the San Diego Chargers never had plans of trading him during the 2015 NFL Draft. He also stated that he never demanded a trade from the team denying the rumours that he wanted out of the team.

"I think deep down in my gut I didn't think I would be gone," Rivers said to a radio interview with The Mighty 1090 AM as reported also by ESPN.com. "But you just never know. I don't think you ever know. There was certainly enough smoke out there to linger a little bit to make you see if there was a fire. But I never felt like, 'Oh my gosh, this is happening.'"

Rivers also said in the interview that the Chargers’ brass told him that “nothing was going on” and that he believed he was not being traded. Rivers, who also said that he did not demand a trade, admitted that there were doubts about his status with the Chargers.

"I took them for their word, which was what it was -- nothing was going on," Rivers said. "But at the same time, are you really going to tell a player a month out, 'Hey, we're trying to trade you.' You know what I mean?,” Rivers added. “So what I'm saying is you never really know, although I'm certainly a guy who wants to believe the truth in every way, and that's what it was."

Rivers is in the final year of his contract with the Chargers and has publicly stated that he wants to finish the contract with San Diego. A long-term contract extension has not been discussed between the two parties. The team is committed to Rivers for the 2015 NFL season and will most likely name him as the starting quarterback for the upcoming season. Both Tom Telesco, the Chargers’ general manager and Mike McCoy, the team’s head coach have said that Rivers is part of the core for the Chargers in the new season.
