Apple's innovation is yet to end with the iPhone 6 as new reports are suggesting that come the next iPhone release date in 2015, the device, likely to be called iPhone 6S or 7, will come equip with 3D display panel.

Glass-free, 3D display rendering

In a new report, tech blog site G4Games floated the high likelihood of the next iPhone ditching the in-cell touch panel technology currently in use on the device's screen display, employing instead "a glassless 3D display."

The report pointed to Taiwan's Economic Daily News as source of its information.

The major shift will also prompt the revision of Apple's hardware and software ecosystem in order to align them with 3D display technology, added the report. The news story identified too TPK of Taiwan as a major partner in Apple's grand plan for its iPhone 6 sequel.

Doable technology

Naked eye 3D screen on the iPhone 6S or 7 is actually a doable technology, according to MacRumors. The Apple-centric site also pointed out that existing Apple patents could support the immediate implementation of 3D display on upcoming iOS devices.

Previous inventions by Apple have explored the possibility of devices benefitting from glass-free and stereoscopic 3D display.

Another likely rendition, Business Insider said, is 3D hyper reality - that largely will rely on sensors so future iPhone builds will change home screen perspective in relation to users' head movements.

Precedents

It should be noted too that the technology is not entirely new. Earlier smartphone models from Amazon, HTC and LG have attempted to make use of 3D display panel but with little success, G4Games said on its report.

But Apple is no stranger to scenarios of picking up gadget capabilities then improving if not perfecting them. One instance is the recent introduction of fingerprint reader by Samsung that Apple had enhanced with the iPhone 5S last year and the iPhone 6 this 2014.

2015 iPhone release date plans

While it may be too early to speculate on the next iPhone as the iPhone 6 is still in the early stage of its worldwide distribution, preparation and development for Apple's next big thing isn't exactly premature.

If the next iPhone will take after the iPhone 6 release date template set this 2014, and likely it will, then the research and design efforts for the 2015 follow up should be well underway.
