The Rockioo Watch, a smartwatch project that was launched on Kickstarter, was recently unveiled at the CES Asia trade show. With its titanium-clad look and high-end features, it just might turn out to be one of the best rivals for the Apple Watch.

This particular smartwatch is powered by Android 4.4 and is considered to be a premium wearable device. And, just like any other top-of-the-line wearable tech, the Rockioo Watch will not be cheap with a price range of $199 to $259, depending on the model.

What makes the Rockioo Watch stand out from the rest is its standalone feature. Unlike the other smartwatches that are available in the market today, it does not require a smartphone in order to function.

According to CNET, IDC has reported earlier this year that total worldwide shipments of wearable devices have reached 45.7 million this year, which is much more than last year’s 19.6 million. Plus, according to the report, 90 percent of that value was in the form of wrist wear – amounting to 40.7 million shipped units.

The Rockioo Watch sports a 1.63-inch OLED screen that has a 320 x 320 pixel resolution. It readily comes with built-in 3G cellular connectivity, as well as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Apart from that, it also has a digital compass and a built-in GPS capability. Since the device is powered by Android 4.4, the smartwatch can send text messages and even make calls with the use of its micro-SIM card.

With regards to the unit’s battery life, its 500mAh battery gives it a standby time of four days. This is a very good feature, considering that most smartwatches today can only reach up to 24 hours.

The device is also water-resistant and can reach a depth of up to 50 meters below sea level – a feature that makes it the best choice for avid divers.
