Google has reportedly approved the use of Huawei’s in-house Kirin application processor to power the 2015 Nexus smartphone, replacing the Nexus 6. Google's Nexus 6 has been a subject of debate and leaks. The latest lead supports the release of the device through a leaked image.

A leak first spotted by Android Police shows the specs of Shamu, what many people believe to be the Motorola-made Nexus 6 / Nexus X phone. The leak is the latest in a series of image and specs leaks following the lack of confirmation on the release of the next Nexus installment.

Physical Characteristics Still Unclear

NDTV Gadgets, which picked up Android Police's report, noted that the handset itself is not visible; therefore, nothing much can be said about the rumored Nexus X's appearance. However, an enhanced photo on the original Android Police post (which also comes from the comment thread of Droid Life) shows the phone to have the characteristic corner curves and general appearance of the Moto X, as well as Motorola's logo, further fueling rumors that Motorola is indeed making the latest Nexus installment.

The image also shows three control keys below the screen, and a horizontal line below, which may either be a front-facing speaker or a prototype marking. NDTV Gadgets notes that earlier leaks peg the Nexus X to have a 5.9-inch screen, an elongated version of the Moto X.

Updated Specs Leaked

The image, which was leaked in a comment on Droid Life by user "shamushamwow," shows the specs of Shamu clearly. If the leak is to be believed, the current Nexus X prototype is running an AOSP version (Android Open Source Project) of Android L, given away by the model number being labeled as "AOSP on Shamu."

The baseband number is not revealed in the image, but one thing has not changed: Android Police points out that it is still running a Google-made kernel built-in Mountain View. The kernel has been updated, with the version shown as made in late August. Their report points out that the Google-built kernel is a strong indication that it is, in fact, a Google device, possibly the next Nexus.

Rumors suggest that Shamu or the Nexus 6/X will be a Google Play version of the Moto X.. According to Android Police, the latest Nexus installment is believed to be coming out in November.
