"Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite” revealed a new trailer, giving players their first look into the upcoming title’s gameplay. The trailer in question highlights several characters in particular, including Thor, Ultron, Hawkeye, the Hulk, the Space Stone, Chris Redfield, Strider Hiryu and Chun-Li. While the title may suggest Marvel and Capcom characters exclusively going against each other, characters from either Marvel or Capcom can work together as a team as evidenced by the newly released trailer.

According to producer Mike Evans, “Infinite” will delve further into story which will give insight on how the clash between the Marvel and Capcom universes came to be. “We’ve always had an amazing fighting game over the past 20 years, but it’s been very light on story,” Evans told Eurogamer. “For the first time now we’re going to tell this story, explaining how the worlds came together. We’re trying to push it away from its predecessors. We’re keeping the DNA of the vs. series, like the air combos, but at the same time creating something unique and original.”

In an interview with Metro, Evans also discussed the game’s character roster. He explained that the game’s universe is separate from that of the films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which implies that other Marvel characters — particularly those that Marvel has no cinematic rights to — may make an appearance in “Infinite.”

“It’s not based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” Evans explained. “We take a lot of inspiration from the cinematic universe, but the game is a completely original universe.”

Additionally, Evans promised more surprises leading up to the game’s release. These may include more announcements and bonuses for the title, as well as more character reveals in the months to come.

Previously, pre-order bonuses and special editions for the game were announced. These include the Standard Edition ($80), Deluxe Edition ($120) and Collector’s Edition ($267). The sixth main entry in the “Marvel vs. Capcom” series, “Infinite” follows the previous “Marvel vs. Capcom Origins” which was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012.

“Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite” will be available by September for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows. Watch the title’s new gameplay trailer below:
