Katy Perry's much awaited album "Prism" is released on October 22 and that marks the singer's graduation from a candy pop princess to a more mature and spiritual singer. The 28-year-old songstress celebrated the release of her album with a special iHeartRadio performance in Los Angeles.

The singer performed on the first single "Roar" at the event, which took place at the iHeartRadio Theater in Los Angeles. The audience received the singer with great applause and enthusiasm.

Billboard is calling the album as Perry's "well-executed step toward adulthood" as the tracks are mostly based on happenings in Katy's life. Perry has used the divorce phase of her life as an inspiration for the album. The singer was in the darkest phase in her life when her marriage with Russel Brand ended.

Since splitting with Brand, Perry has moved on in her relationship and is dating singer-songwriter John Mayer.

"While the first half of "PRISM" flashes an array of sonic and lyrical colors, hopping from disco ("Walking on Air") to rap ("Dark Horse") to sumptuous pop-rock ("International Smile"), the second half feels more lived-in, with Perry patiently discussing her battles with hopeless relationships, struggles to understand herself and attempts to live for the moment in a whirlwind reality," the Billboard writes about the album.

"These songs are not the bubblegum summer smashes of a California Gurl, but something much deeper from an artist striving to tell her full story," it adds.

Jon Dolan of the Rolling Stone has called the album as "the follow-up where she reveals the multifaceted artist behind the fun pop sheen." However he is not very convinced with the album says that Prism's "raft of ripe-lotus ballads is larded with Alanis-ian poesy she can't pull off."

Greg Kot of the Chicago Tribune dished out a measly 2 out of 4 stars for Katy Perry's "Prism." "Because of the tightly wound arrangements, Perry's big voice becomes more of a sonic ornament than an expressive instrument in many of her songs," Kot says of Perry.

Katy Perry's last album "Teenage Dream" was a record hit as the album gave five No. 1 singles in total. It was an achievement for Perry as she her album was only the second album after Michael Jackson's "Bad" to achieve that milestone. No female artist has ever achieved that record by selling 5.7 million copies worldwide.

The "Roar" singer has kept most of the produces same as her previous album. She reunited with music producers and songwriters Max Martin, Dr. Luke and Cirkut for "Prism." Will the singer achieve the same magic with "Prism" as she did with "Teenage Dream?"
