Bethesda recently released a video of “Fallout 4” regarding the game’s perks system and much like the actual game, player choice will determine what kind of character the player will get. This has been a trend since “Fallout 3” was released, which was then been expanded on by “Skyrim” and may seemingly be perfected by “Fallout 4” when it comes out later this year.

According to a blog from Bethesda, players will be given attributes to distribute to their character’s desired stats: Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility and Luck, all of which spells out SPECIAL. These stats will determine what kind of abilities the player will get as the character levels up and gains experience points for certain perks.

Furthermore, the game will actually let the players pick their desired SPECIAL before the bombs drop, which should be interesting to see. Players will also be given a second chance to change their SPECIAL once they exit the vault and enter the wasteland, similar to the beginning of “Fallout 3”.

Each SPECIAL has 10 perks, so there are a total of 70 perks in the game. However, each perk actually has a rank, so the number technically increases to 270, giving players plenty of skills to learn.

To help players choose their skills carefully, Bethesda will be releasing a new video every week that will showcase a certain skill, depending on what SPECIAL stat has been leveled up. The first video released focuses on strength and the advantages of leveling up that particular SPECIAL.

The videos emulate the old wartime educational videos, similar to the ones seen in “Fallout 3” and “Bioshock”. Veteran players can have a good laugh at how bright and cheery the cartoon is in context with the dark and gloomy world seen in the game.

“Fallout 4” also emulates its predecessor “Fallout 3” by relying on an experience points-based level up system, unlike the skill-based one seen in “Skyrim”. However, a report from Eurogamer states that the leveling up speed is very similar to “Skyrim”, as it happens quickly and allows players to developer their skills faster.

Currently one of the most anticipated games of 2015, “Fallout 4” is solicited for a Nov. 10 release date. The game will be coming to the PS4, Xbox One and PC. Those that pre-order the game can gain access to a poster that showcases the SPECIAL stats in the game, with “Fallout” mascot Vault Boy.
