The Los Angeles Lakers have already spent most of the team’s cap space this summer to improve their roster, but LA’s general manager Mitch Kupchack has hinted at the possibility of bringing another free agent to the City of Angels. After introducing new members Roy Hibbert, Lou Williams, and Brandon Bass to Tinsel town, Lakers are looking to add Matthew Dellavedova as part of their young core of players.

Dellavedova, who became an unexpected breakout star in the NBA Finals on June, is reportedly looking for a multi-year deal of $2million per season according to Australian sports site The Roar. Lakers, who still have a $2.8 million exception via Roy Hibbert’s unexercised trade bonus, could make a run to sign the 24-year-old Aussie as noted by Yibada.com.

The Lakers are already full in its frontcourt position, but none of the likes of Jordan Clarkson and rookie D’Angelo Russell could defend as rough as “Delly.” Kupchack has suggested that the Lakers “may sign another guard” and Dellavedova is one of the few remaining quality picks in NBA’s free agent market as noted by Daily News.

Dellavedova could be a perfect on-ball defender for Los Angeles, who finished 29th in points allowed per game last season. Lakers can become an improved defensive unit in the crowded Western Conference with the addition of the pesky defender.

Another team that is on the hunt to get the service of Boomers point guard is Portland Trailblazers. After losing half of its roster this summer, Rip City is looking to revamp its rotation with Dellavedova included in their list. Portland has been reportedly poised to offer a contract to Dellavedova according to Fox Sports.

While Cleveland Cavaliers have the right to match any offer from a rival team, the Cavs might not have the needed space to retain the Australian baller. The Cavs have already signed backup point guard Mo Williams, which was an obvious preemptive move in case Dellavedova is questionable for a return. With talks still pending between Cleveland and Dellavedova, the Lakers and Trailblazers have a great chance to strike a deal with the Aussie defender.
