Memphis Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes has reportedly physically attacked New York Knicks head coach Derek Fisher with the apparent feud rooting from the fact that the latter has a romantic relationship with the former’s estranged wife, Gloria Govan.

According to a report from Ian Mohr of the New York Post, stating unnamed sources, the 35-year-old Barnes, who is known as the one of the toughest defensive players in the NBA, “beat the [expletive] out of him”, referring to the former player turned coach in the 41-year-old Fisher.

Barnes and Fisher were former teammates with the Los Angeles Lakers from 2010 to 2012. Barnes has filed for divorce from Govan in January 2015 while Fisher also filed for divorce from wife, Candace Fisher, last March, also this year.

According to the same report, the fight between Barnes and Fisher happened at around midnight last Saturday at Govan’s house. The Grizzlies were holding their training camp at a nearby Santa Barbara basketball facility in California.

The NBA is reportedly already investigating the alleged incident between Barnes and Fisher, who according to sources will not press charges against the Grizzlies forward.

“My state of mind — like I talked to the guys a few minutes ago — is personal, and private matters are personal and private,” Fisher told the NY Post. “I’ve been through a lot in life. Sometimes, we go through things we can’t or can control. I’m here. I’m focused. It’s not something that’s going to take me away from what we’re trying to do.”

The Knicks hired Fisher as head coach in June 2014 after officially retiring as a player from the league. The point guard had stints with the Lakers (1996 to 2004, 2007 to 2012), Golden State Warriors (2004 to 2006), Utah Jazz (2006 to 2007) and the Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City Thunder (2012 to 2014).

Barnes was recently acquired by the Grizzlies after stints with Los Angeles Clippers, Knicks, Sacramento Kings, Philadelphia 76ers, Warriors, Phoenix Suns, Orlando Magic, and Lakers from 2004 to 2015.

Barnes’ Grizzlies and Fisher’s Knicks meet twice in the 2015-2016 regular season, on Jan. 16 and Feb. 6 next year.
