Point guard Deron Williams has agreed to a buyout agreement with the Brooklyn Nets in this offseason and is expected to join the Dallas Mavericks.

David Aldridge of NBA.com was one of the first to report the release of Williams from the Nets while multiple reports are confirming that the veteran point guard is headed to Dallas.

Nets head coach Lionell Hollins, who reportedly clashed with Williams last season, denied that the coach-player relationship was the reason why the PG was bought out by the team, as per Fred Katz of The Bleacher Report on Twitter.

“You know, everything is not peaches and cream. But there’s not one shred of evidence that our relationship is the reason that he has gone. I would’ve coached Deron [Williams] this upcoming year just like I coached him last year.”

Williams was owed about $43 million over the next two seasons. After the buyout agreement, the Nets will pay him just more than half that figure—or around $27.5 million. Brooklyn will also use the stretch provision on Williams with the buyout figure—Williams will get paid $5.5 million until 2020 but the Nets will save some many and avoid the luxury tax and save about $30M to $40M.

Williams will reportedly sign a two-year $10M deal in Dallas.

Williams, who played high school basketball in Texas, averaged a career-low 13.0 points and 6.6 assists per game for the Nets last season. With Dallas, he’s expected to battle for the starting point guard spot against the likes of Devin Harris, J.J. Barea and Raymond Felton.
