The San Antonio Spurs bolstered its frontcourt with the acquisition of David West who agreed for a minimum salary contract worth $1.4 million. West, who played for Indiana Pacers for four years, took a massive pay cut to be part of Spurs’ consistency in contending for a title.

The veteran all-star left Indiana Pacers to look for a team that has a stronger chance of wining an NBA championship. West rejected an $11 million payday from Pacers to join Tim Duncan and newly acquired all-star power forward Lamarcus Aldridge in the franchise’s bid for a sixth championship banner according to reports of CBS Sports.

"At this point in my career, it's all about winning. And again, I don't want to be in a position where we're just fighting to make the playoffs. I want to be in a spot where we can legitimately taste the Finals,” West said in a recent interview with WTHR-TV in Indianapolis as per ESPN.com.

West averaged 11.7 points on 47.1 percent shooting and 6.8 rebounds in the 2014-2015 season. The 34-year-old power forward can help Greg Popovich’s team with his excellent mid-range jumpers and physicality on the defensive end.

The Spurs made a big splash in this year’s free agency after securing a long-term deal with Aldridge, re-signing 2014 Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard and bringing back three point sharp shooter Danny Green. The five-time champs completed its championship caliber roster after Manu Ginobili announced he would return for Spurs for one last run. Ginobili posted on his Twitter account that he was “happy” to come back next season jokingly adding that Duncan would miss him too much.

The Argentinian international contemplated of retiring since the end of last season. However, the addition of Aldridge and West to Spurs’ core of players might have convinced Ginobili to play for one more season. The 37-year-old veteran averaged a career-low 10.5 points last season, but his ability to play quality minutes and leadership makes him a very important piece in San Antonio’s roster. Ginobili won four championships with Spurs along Duncan and all-star point guard Tony Parker.
