The Cleveland Cavaliers gave their fans a bit of excitement when reports surfaced that the All-Star duo of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love will be active in the team’s training camp, which starts on Sept. 29. Irving and Love is expected to have limited participation in the Cavs’ training camp, but their inclusion in the team’s active list suggests that both NBA stars could join Lebron James as early as December, giving fans an early Christmas treat.

Tom West of SI.com’s Fansided wrote that Irving and Love’s progress towards recovery is giving Cleveland a promising sign that the two could be ready for NBA action around Christmas time. “The Cavaliers may be able to have their full trio of All-Stars back in action together by Christmas,” West wrote. “This isn’t certain, but their likely participation in training camp — even to a limited extent — is a very promising sign for their recovery.”

Irving fractured his knee cap during Game 1 of the NBA Finals in June against the Golden State Warriors, and has undergone a successful surgery. The three-time NBA All-Star was expected to be back for the Cavs as early as January next year, but the progress of his recovery could see him in action well before his anticipated return.

Love, on the other hand, sustained a separated shoulder at the post season, when Boston Celtics’ Kelly Olynyk essentially attacked the 6-foot-9 power forward. The 27-year-old Love revealed on Sept. 11 at “Late Night with Seth Meyers” that he is a month and a half away from returning to action.

According to Chris Haynes of Northeast Ohio Media Group, Irving and Love’s participation in the Cavs’ training camp will be limited. Haynes revealed that Love’s workload on the court will consist of non-contact drills, while Irving has been tight-lipped about his training activities.

“Irving (fractured knee cap) and Love (separated shoulder) will be active during camp, but on a limited basis,” Hayne wrote. “The Cavaliers will work the two in slowly and cautiously.”

Meanwhile, Russian big man Timofey Mozgov and Anderson Varejao will also be included in the Cavs’ training camp. Unlike Irving and Love, the activities of Mozgov and Varejao are not expected to be restricted once camp begins. However, Cleveland will still closely monitor the involvement of the big men.

Mozgov underwent arthroscopic surgery for his right knee scope, while Varejao is coming off a devastating tear on his Achilles’ tendon.
