Carmelo Anthony remains one of the better players in the NBA. However, the rise of Kristaps Porzingis has allowed the New York Knicks to explore a future without Anthony in the line-up or with the forward having a reduced role.

“Melo” has accepted this fact in a recent interview saying he is “at peace” with any role with the Knicks in the future.

"I see the writing on the wall. I see what it is. I see what they're trying to do, and it's just me accepting that. That's what puts me at peace. Just knowing and understanding how things work. I'm at peace with that,” Anthony told ESPN.

"I don't think me going out there, trying to score 30 and 40 every night and playing that way, is going to help them out at this point. I think it's more about getting that experience and letting them go out there and play through that right now. It's challenging, but I think it's for the greater good for everybody on this team."

In previous years, Anthony has been the No. 1 guy for his previous team, the Denver Nuggets and the Knicks the last few seasons. He spent his first eight years in Denver before moving to New York during the 2010-2011 NBA Season. Anthony had more success in Denver and he has failed to lead the Knicks to an NBA title.

Anthony with the Knicks has only made the postseason three times and they are once again on the way to the NBA lottery this season. Anthony, as a franchise player in New York, has been a failure and it could now be time to give that role to Porzingis.

For the 2016-2017 NBA Season, Anthony still averages 22.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. But in recent games, head coach Jeff Hornacek has given the younger guys a chance to contribute and prove themselves. This could a sign that Anthony is on his way out of New York as the Knicks try to develop Porzingis as their franchise player.

After another disappointing season, the Knicks have two options regarding Anthony next season. New York can choose to stick with Anthony and make him part of the team’s core along with Porzingis. Another option is for the Knicks to convince Anthony to waive his no trade clause so that New York can get younger guys to pair with Porzingis.

If Carmelo Anthony allows a trade, he can also move to another NBA team that has a chance to win a title the next few years. That should be a good opportunity for Melo, who now accepts the fact that he is not the main man in New York.
