'Pahrump Hills' Region, Mars
A color mosaic taken by NASA's Mars Curiosity rover Mast Camera (mastcam) shows strata exposed along the margins of the valleys in the "Pahrump Hills" region on Mars in this undated handout photo courtesy of NASA. After 18 months of driving, scientists on September 11, 2014, announced that Curiosity had arrived at the base of Mount Sharp ahead of schedule, thanks to a somewhat serendipitous decision to take an alternative path that would be gentler on the rover's damaged wheels. Within two weeks, Curiosity will reach an outcrop of rock called Pahrump Hills, where the first drill samples of Mount Sharp real estate will be made. Reuters/NASA/JPL-Caltech/MSSS/

NASA's Curiosity rover has photographed some extremely weird things on the surface of Mars. From a thigh bone to a strange traffic light, these photographed intrigued space enthusiasts all over the Internet. Videos of them were posted on YouTube, leading to several speculations as to what the object really was, if it existed at all or was it merely an illusion. Here are a list of things that were spotted on Mars:

Traffic lights spotted on Mars

The most recent object spotted on Mars was a traffic light. A space enthusiast, Joseph White, spotted the object on September 19 in the image captured by NASA's Curiosity rover. Huffington Post reported that White believed what he had found in the image was designed very intelligently. He posted a video of it on YouTube, while several users voiced out their opinions of the object. Some believed it to be a traffic light, while other concluded that it merely was a trick of the eye. "People said they thought it looked like a set of traffic lights too," Smith told England's Western Daily Press. He also added that some people though it was similar to a totem pole.

Smooth ball found on Mars

When the image of the traffic lights was spotted, Paul Scott Anderson, who calls himself a freelance space writer, detected a smooth ballin the picture. This was after the image of the traffic light was spotted. Scott Anderson has stated on Twitter that he is the publisher of The Meridiani Journal blog, a chronicle of planetary exploration. Discovery News reported that the ball only seemed big but was actually very small, about a centimeter wide. According to MSL scientists based at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, Calif., the ball may have been formed through concretion.

Anderson posted the image of his finding on Twitter.

Thigh Bone on Mars

On August 14, an object that looked like a thigh bone was spotted on Mars in the images sent by the rover. The videos and images had people amazed as they thought the finding proved that life had existed previously on Mars. NASA's science team members, however, stated that the object was not a thigh bon, but a formation that was caused due to wind or water erosion, reported CNet. The team further confirmed that Mars never had oxygen enough to support complex organisms, and so it was not a sign of life.

Skull found in images sent by the rover

Huffington Post reported a skull on Mars that was discovered by conspiracy theorists. The picture of the skull looked almost like a dinosaur's skull. This was reported in May 2014. Prior to this, a finger, bones, human skull and even a penis was spotted in Mars photos by enthusiast. NASA, however, debunked the story and stated that it was merely a rock., while also dismissing that previous objects found on Mars were only oddly shaped rocks.

Apart from those, helmets, rats, lizards, faces, statues, flowers have also thought to have been spotted in the images sent by the rover. But NASA has always given an explanation to the objects seen, dismissing any signs of alien life. But the search for signs of life on the Red Planet is always on among space enthusiasts, ET believers and several others. So far, reports of these objects have always taken the social media sites by storm.
