Myer has announced it will be partnering with British fashion retailer Topshop on Tuesday morning. The former plans to open around 20 Myer fashion retail outlets across Australia with 25 percent investment in the Australian Topshop and Topman franchisee.

The concession stores have been planned to set up in Bondi in November, besides the seven stores already existing in the country. However, the announcement stated that the concession store in Melbourne will soon open in February 2016. CEO of Myer, Richard Umbers, said that in-store concessions have a definite path of successful models to follow in overseas department stores like Nordstrom and Selfridges.

“Topshop Topman is a wanted brand globally and fully aligned with our strategic objective to provide a sharper, more focused offer to our customers. The brand brings to Myer outstanding fashion and cutting-edge design for customers who appreciate up-to-the minute and affordable fashion,” Umbers said.

The consumers seemed to have mixed reactions on the announcement made in the middle of the Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. Some customers favoured the decision, while some think Myer should support national brands rather favouring international ones.

Deputy head of school, fashion and textiles at RMIT University Karen Webster said that this will be a good opportunity for both the parties. “It is also a very positive union for Topshop which will benefit greatly from some Australian intelligence. Because it can’t just replicate what it’s doing in other markets. I think it’s a very positive union,” she added .

In July, Myer signed contracts with popular local and international brands like Aje, French Connection, Seed, Jack and Jones, Oscar de la Renta and Calvin Klein White.
