Now that the holidays are here, it’s time to hit cinemas because new movies are already available on the big screen in Australia. If you opt to stay away from the crowd and you do want to spend a lot of time in the malls nowadays, you can watch and enjoy a bunch of big movies instead. The top five must-see movies to watch are “Moana,” “La La Land,” “Allied,” “Why Him?” and the new animated movie “Sing.”

“Moana” is the new computer-animated Walt Disney movie. The said movie is starred by Auli’i Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson and many others. The animated movie is about a teenage girl’s journey to sail across the ocean and to save her homeland from ecological disaster. She does this by breaking her father’s rule and restores the heart of Te Fiti, which was stolen by the demigod Maui. Variety reports that the "Moana" keeps with the tradition that made Disney the leader in animated fairy and folk tales. It has already raked in $186 million in domestic gross sales.

Earlier this month,“La La Land” has been named best film by the New York Film Critics Circle. The said film is a Damien Chazelle musical original featuring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. Its storyline focuses on an aspiring LA actor who falls in love with a jazz musician. The film, which has grossed $34 million locally, shows tension between ambition and love, and perhaps the most up-to-date thing about it is the way it explores that ancient conflict, says A.O.Scott of NY Times.

Another great movie to watch is “Allied,” featuring Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard. The said movie is similar to a classic espionage film with a lot of twists and turns in the plot. Stephanie Zacharek, in her Time review, called "Allied" as a fascinating and novel experiment, sophisticated in a different way: "Zemeckis uses technology to elicit the feeling we get when we watch old favorites," she said. The movie has already earned $39 million locally.

“Why Him?” is a comedy movie directed by John Hamburg and the main cast are James Franco, Bryan Cranston, Zoey Deutch and Megan Mullally. This is about a father who finds out that his daughter is dating a billionaire whose traits he doesn’t like. "Bryan Cranston and James Franco face off in what might be one of the simplest ideas for a high concept comedy ever made" said Edward Douglas in his review of the movie in New York Daily news. The movie now has over $16 million gross sales.

The last top pick movie, “Sing,” completes the list. “Sing” is directed by Garth Jennings and the main characters are played by Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, John C Reilly and Tori Kelly. The said film is about a certain Koala who owns a failing theatre and tries to save it by holding an American Idol-style singing competition. "Sing is a narratively slight, but energetic animated musical romp that succeeds in staying light on its toes through its running time," a review written by Sandy Schaefer. As of this week, the gross sales of the said movie is $11 million.

All the movies mentioned are now available at all the big screens in Australia.
