“Mr Robot” has been renewed, with a brand new season expected to air by July 2017. The last season has left some fans to wonder what is really happening with Angela (Portia Doubleday) and what could have caused her to get into Whiterose’s (BD Wong) side. With regard to this, show creator Sam Esmail has commented about Angela’s ever-shifting loyalty with Elliot (Rami Malek).

Esmail said the great thing about the character is that she leaves fans to wonder what her true motivation is. Angela knows how to play both sides, as it was made to appear in “Mr Robot” season 2 that he has left her friend Elliot to join the Dark Army.

The “Mr Robot” showrunner believes that the efficiency of the character in keeping the audiences guessing has a lot to do with Doubleday’s portrayal of the role. The actress makes it difficult for the viewers to read Angela.

“She does it in such an exquisite fashion that we played up the notion where she’s a character that’s riding down the middle,” Esmail said. In the latest season of “Mr Robot,” it seemed that her loyalty was with E Corp, but on one hand, it could feel that she is actually bringing Elliot’s team down.

Esmail has admitted that it was actually how they intend to play it on “Mr Robot” season 2. “We thought that was so fascinating,” he said. As for Angela's loyalty, the showrunner has teased that the storyline has been about what happens underneath the main characters without their knowledge.

At the end of the last instalment, it was made to appear that the assumption was that she’s siding with the Dark Army. Esmail teased that as another season of the series is on its way, it would be interesting to play the dynamic of Angela’s motives. “Is she really with them or is she not? It’s just something with Angela’s journey, we can always keep people off balance in terms of what directions she’s actually going in,” the show runner told Variety.

Doubleday has also appeared in the 2009 film “Youth in Revolt” as Sheeni Saunders. She has also portrayed the role of Jasmine Lee in “Big Mommas: Like Father Like Son. Last year, the actress has attended the 22nd Critics’ Choice Awards at Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, Calif as the “Mr Robot” was nominated for Best Drama Series.

“Mr Robot” season 2 aired on Showcase in Australia. Official air date for the third season is expected to be announced in the near future.
