Motorola held press conferences in New York, London and Sao Paolo to announce three new Android smartphones including larger Moto X Style and Moto X Play phones as well as an updated Moto G. The company is yet to update its Droid line ever since it has been taken over by Lenovo last year.

Familiar chassis and back panel

It has been speculated online that Motorola may launch a new Droid smartphone later this year. A leaked image from a Chinese source reveals the chassis and back panel of the upcoming rumoured handset. The leaked photo of the chassis revealed that the device would have a metal frame which is somewhat similar to the one currently used for Moto X Style and Moto X Play. Another major feature revealed from the leaked image was a coil for wireless charging. This means the device will support the Qi Wireless charging protocol, which is also present in the previous version of the Droid Turbo. Qi is an interface standard developed by the Wireless Power Consortium for inductive electrical power transfer over distances of up to 4 cm.

More panel options

It is also expected that the back panel of the rumoured Droid Turbo 2015 will come with customisation options. The panel has a similar finish to the Moto X Play smartphone, which indicates that the users will have more options apart from Ballistic Nylon and Kevlar.

Other speculated features

As reported by Master Herald, the Motorola Droid Turbo may reportedly support turbo-charging as mentioned by the Federal Communications Commission in the United States. For connectivity options, the handset may be supported by 802.11 ac MiMo WiFi, LTE Advanced or US LTE bands which are even outside the coverage of Verizon Wireless. The upcoming new handset may be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and Adreno 430 chip. The smartphone will reportedly come with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box, or likely to run on the latest Android M.
