As always, Motorola aims to deliver a quality overall smartphone at a good price with the (3rd Gen) Moto G. It may not appear to a huge upgrade from the previous model, but the delicate changes might prove to be very useful to the average smartphone users. It provides one of the best user experiences that one can get at this price.

Design and Display

One of the great aspects about the 3rd Gen Moto G is that users can customise with Moto Maker with various different combinations available. The device sports a 5-inch 720 x 1280 IPS LCD display flanked by significantly thick bezels on the top and bottom. The Moto G has a textured back that provides good grip, reports BGR. With the Moto Display feature you will get to see notifications on the lock screen without even turning the display on. This is a feature that was available on the higher-end Moto X. The reasonably vivid colors, good viewing angles and sharp display make it legible even under bright sunlight. It comes with Gorilla Glass 3 coating with water resistance (IPX7 rated), which means it won’t get damaged when kept under 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes.

Power

The 3rd Gen Motorola Moto G is armed with the Snapdragon 410 which has a 1.4GHz quad-core processor, Adreno 306GPU. The device is available in two variants -1GB RAM (for 8GB storage variant) or 2GB RAM (for 16GB storage variant). Motorola has bumped up the speed on the Cortex A53 processor which results in a smooth operation, a report says on Tech First. Users can expect the device to perform better than the second gen Moto G which was powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 CPU. The handset runs on Android 5.1.1 and might get upgraded to Android M, whenever Google releases the final version.

Camera

Considering the price, the Moto G has a very impressive camera. It houses a 13 megapixel rear camera at the back with a dual-LED flash, along with a 5 megapixel snapper on the front, perfect for selfies. Plus the phone can shoot 1080p video at 30fps. According to the reports on 3G UK, the phone ensures sharp, detailed images, with great color reproduction even when using the flash. The camera can be launched by simply twisting the wrist twice.

Battery life, memory and connectivity

There is a 2470 mAh battery in the Moto G 3rd gen, which the company claims can last a whole day. The handset supports dual-SIM card slots. Moto G 3rd gen with either 8 or 16GB of built in storage and in both the variants there a microSD card slot, which can accommodate up to 32GB cards. Connectivity options include 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth 4.1.1 and GPS with A-GPS and GLONASS. However, there is no NFC.

The 8GB variant that comes with 1GB of RAM is available at $AUD 250 or about £115 whereas 16GB variant with 2GB of RAM is available at just $AUD 278. Thus, the only caution to that is that the 8GB model does not seem such great value for money when the other variant with 2GB RAM is available at almost the same price.
