Motorola Moto Z review, a great modular phone that relies too much on its Mods

Moto Z, Moto Z Play and Moto Mods have launched in Australia. The two premium smartphones and the mods collection clip on to the back. The boombox, big screen projector, battery pack and a super-zoom camera are in focus.

As per Gizmodo Australia, the Moto Z and Moto Z Play are now available in Australia at The Good Guys Stores, Harvey Norman, Officeworks and also the official Motorola Australia site. The Moto Z has been priced at $999 and Moto Z Play at $699.

As far as the Moto Mods are concerned, the Insta-Share 70-inch movie projector is available for$429, JBL SoundBoost portable speaker for $159 and the Incipio offGRID power pack for $119. The wireless model costs $139. The standout mod however is the Hasselblad True Zoom 10x optical zoom camera available for $399.

The Moto Style Shells in three varieties, namely, leather, real wood and nylon. They are available for $39, $29 and $29 respectively. The Moto Z is reportedly the thinnest smartphone ever. It measures only 5.2 mm. It has a 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED display, 4GB RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and a military aircraft-grade aluminium and stainless steel build.

The Moto Z has a 13MP primary camera with laser autofocus and optical image stabilisation. The 5MP front camera has a wide angle lens and extra front flash. The fingerprint reader is located in the front.

TurboPower fast-charging powers the 2,600 mAh battery for up to seven hours in 15 minutes. The 64GB internal storage can be expanded up to 2TB via microSD card.

On the other hand, the Moto Z Play comes with a powerful 3,510 mAh battery that also supports TurboPower fast-charging. The aluminium frame and glass back design hosts a 2.0 GHz octa-core processor and 3GB of RAM.

The Moto Z Play has a 5.5-inch 1080p Full HD Super AMOLED display and a 16MP laser autofocus camera.
