Motorola has made the official Android Lollipop firmware available to users of Moto X second generation and Moto G first generation Google Play Edition in Brazil, Mexico and the United States. Know the firmware details and changes delivered by the latest Android version.

Moto X Second Generation And Google Play Edition Moto G First Generation

Motorola confirmed the official Android 5.0 Lollipop update for both Moto X second generation and GPE Moto G first generation. The new firmware rolled out to Moto X second generation users on Verizon in the United States since Nov 24, while the rollout for the GPE Moto G first generation begun pn Dec12, 2014, to users in Brazil and Mexico.

In early November, the company pushed out the first Android 5.0 Lollipop firmware updates to the Pure Edition Moto X second generation, U.S. GSM Moto G second generation and Global GSM retail version of Moto G second generation in the United States in phases. This leaves Moto X first generation, Moto G first generation, Moto G 4G LTE, Moto E, Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and Droid Mini in waiting status to receive Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Android 5.0 Lollipop Firmware Changes And Details

For the recent release notes of Android 5.0 Lollipop, Motorola posted the official change logs for Moto X and Moto G second generation models. It also included a note to users that updating to Android 5.0 prevents downgrading to previous versions, including Android KitKat.

- Material Design user interface that brings new visual style and animations.

- New notifications user interface on both lock and home screen with management tools to configure "Priorities."

- New Interruptions and Downtime settings.

- Redesigned "Overview" space that replaced the "Recents" list of applications.

- Ambient Display to show notifications without turning on the full display. Moto Display variation for Moto X allows intelligent reaction when using approach gestures.

- Motorola Assist is integrated to the new Downtime settings.

- Built-in Flashlight control on the Quick Settings

- Guest user account enables sharing of the device without exposing private or sensitive data.

- Pin a view or app to prevent access to other areas of the device. Primarily useful for kids to avoid them navigating outside the pinned screen.

- New battery management tools and native power saving mode.

- Android Runtime to optimise application performance.

- Android Smart Lock to add and connect to trusted devices such as Moto 360 or a Bluetooth car.
