A Motorola ad has allegedly given a peek into the company’s yet unannounced smartphone, the Moto X 2017. The Moto X line has been on a break for a while but it’s far from over. The upcoming brick may have made a short cameo in the ad.

The rap video ad, celebrating Motorola’s 44th anniversary, shows a series of phones popping up at the beginning, showing the company’s various smartphones over the years. One such phone that appears around the two-three second mark looks familiar in an unusual way. It appears to be a dead ringer for a recently leaked phone that claims to be the Moto X 2017 handset. Naturally, there is no way to confirm this, but the phone shown in the ad looks very similar to the build of the leaked model. Only the colour is different, according to Phandroid.

Meanwhile, TechRadar believes that a portion of the smartphone shown where the camera appears, looks blurred. It is possibly hiding the dual-camera setup that was the standout feature of the leaked image of the alleged Motorola Moto X 2017 handset. The company has not confirmed any detail of the smartphone. The Moto X line was never about raw hardware specs. Instead, it always focused on meaningful innovation via software features that aimed at enhancing user experience.

The upcoming Moto X 2017 will help in filling Lenovo’s Moto product portfolio catering to the premium-midrange segment. The leaked product render from China (shared below) showed the handset in its golden avatar. The smartphone in the ad, believed to be the Moto X, is in blue. Apart from the colour difference, the leaked render and the phone in the video look frightfully familiar. It is very much possible that someone inside Motorola has accidentally included the phone in the rap ad (also shared below).

According to PC Authority, the Motorola Moto X 2017 looks very much like the Moto G5, only with a more premium feel. 2017 is turning out to be the year of dual-cameras in smartphones. Hence, the upcoming Moto X handset will also feature dual cameras. The smartphone is definitely not going to be a performance freak. It will likely come with a 3GB RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor and 32GB of internal storage. There is a big possibility that the smartphone won’t have Moto Mod support.

Similar to Moto G5 Plus, the Motorola Moto X 2017 will also be able to free up space on-screen by allowing the front-facing fingerprint scanner to also act as a multi-function navigation key. Users will need to use only taps and swipes to make their way through the Android UI.
