Moto X is the latest device series to join the Android 5.1 bandwagon. Both the first and second generation devices are in line for the firmware with some users possibly receiving access early or delayed depending on their network provider and location. The Android 5.1 promises new features and fixes for existing Android OS problems.

The Moto X 1st generation Android 5.1 update is just seeding out internationally whereas the Moto X 2nd generation has now access the firmware but as mentioned schedules can vary depending on the carrier and region of the user. According to Motorola's support page for the 1st generation Moto X, part of the changelog is as follows:

· notifications will appear on the lock screen, classified intelligently by type and sender.

· open a notification with two rings, swipe left or right to delete or remove all notifications from the list of background.

· can set the priority and the privacy of notifications for each application.

· notifications with higher priority will appear briefly on other applications, so you can decide what action to take.

· when you cancel a notification on a device, this is also canceled in its other Android devices if they are connected to the Internet.

· can further adjust the operation of notifications through new Inactivity Period settings and screen Environment.

To see the full details of the update, click here. As for the 2nd generation Moto X, the company's support page has also detailed the features to be expected. Part of the changelog is as follows:

· Block interruptions until your next alarm. This choice will show only when you have an alarm set within the next 12 hours. It will prevent you from missing an alarm when you choose ‘No interruptions’.

· You can choose to enter a scheduled downtime early. For example, if you are going to bed early and change your notification settings, you can choose “Until your downtime ends”. This option will be visible when within 4 hours of the scheduled start of your downtime.

· Adds icons to the volume settings panel that match those that will show in the status bar (None, Priority).

· You can now alter notification volume controls while media is playing. With the volume controls showing, a tap on the bell icon will bring up notification volume controls.

They can proceed by choosing "Download" from the prompt then "Install Now" after ther file is saved. Wait for the installation process to be completed, the phone should restart after.

People can also check for the update manually by going to the Setup icon under the Applications menu. Go to About Phone > System Updates > Download > Install. The software should install while the device should restart after.
