In a tragic turn of event, a 2-year-old child shot and killed his mom. The toddler reached into her mother's purse and fired the concealed gun. The accident happened at a Wal-Mart in Idaho.

According to New York Times, the kid was sitting in a shopping cart and her mom's purse was there unattended. Before 10:20 a.m., the CCTV installed in the store recorded the entire incident. The 2-year-old found the gun in the purse and it fired at near point-blank range. Lt. Stu Miller said that the child's mother 29-year-old Veronica Jean Rutledge died on the spot.

Lt. Miller commented that her son "doesn't even know what has happened." Rutledge was from Blackfoot, Idaho which is about 380 miles from Hayden and she was visiting her family.

Rutledge's husband was not aware if his wife was allowed to carry a concealed gun. Lt. Miller said that it is common to carry guns here in Idaho and many people "carry loaded guns."

The store was closed after the incident and the spokesperson for Wal-mart Brook Buchanan described the shooting as a "very sad and tragic accident."

"A very sad and tragic incident happened in our Hayden store involving a female customer, and we're working with the local sheriff's department while they investigate what happened," Buchanan stated in a statement to ABC News.

The city administrator Stefan T. Chatwin talked to New York Times and said that guns are the part of the city's culture. Also, the gun laws for the city were amended last week. According to the amended law, gun owners can justify in firing a gun in defence of property or persons.

This is not the first time, an accident like this happened. Back in April, an 11-year-old girl was shot and killed by her 2-year-old brother in Philadelphia (via Yahoo News).
