Following a raft of unplanned character reveal and leaks, the folks at NetherRealm have finally been able to officially release a bit of “Mortal Kombat X” content without fans knowing about it first. A new trailer, focusing on Kung Lao, his descendant, Kung Jin and fan-favourite, Liu Kang has been released.

The video, called the Official Shaolin Trailer is hosted on the Maxim Russia YouTube channel and provides further insight into the epic story of “MKX.” The trailer reveals that former Elder God, Shinnok has somehow brought to life and controls Raiden’s long-dead champions of EarthRealm, Kung Lao and Liu Kang. Gamers also get a fleeting glimpse at drunken trainer Bo' Rai Cho chatting with Raiden, though it’s unlikely he will feature as a playable character.

The Shaolin Trailer does a great job of showing off Kung Lao, Kung Jin and Liu Kang’s various fighting moves, intercutting fast-paced action with expository dialogue. Kung Lao is shown decimating Johnny Cage, decapitating him with his razor-rimmed hat before carving deep gashes into his lifeless body. There’s a tense first meeting between Sub-Zero and two of the game’s new characters, Cassie Cage and Kung Jin, which seems to end poorly.

Kung Jin shows off his intense fighting manoeuvres by breaking bones, firing arrows into foes and slamming them into the ground. A zombified Liu Kang is also seen dealing out damage to opponents and taunting Raiden. As trailer comes to a close, it shows off Liu Kang’s extremely gory throat-punch finisher, as he executes his long-time mentor in brutal fashion.

The Shaolin Trailer will no doubt have fans eager for the release of the final release of “MKX.” Gamer’s can get another glimpse of what’s in store thanks to a new video released on the “Mortal Kombat Community Youtube page.

The short teaser shows System of a Down band member Shavarsh Odadjian working on a TV spot for the game. The spot is slated to air on March 27, and will feature the band’s famous song “Chop Suey.” “Mortal Kombat X” is slated for release on April 14 on PC, Xbox One and PS4. As noted by Gamespot, the game’s release on PS3 and Xbox 360 has been delayed to the summer.
