“Mortal Kombat X” has been one of the most successful iterations of the popular fighting series, which dates back to 1992. First launched as one of the most controversial arcade-fighting games, the series has been able to appear in several consoles. Its latest chapter is currently playable through the PC and other current gen consoles; however, recent reports state that the game will be limited to where it is now.

The Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of “Mortal Kombat X” has long been delayed since the game’s release earlier this year. Publisher Warner Bros. Interactive has officially confirmed that they will cancel both versions. The sad news was released through Warner Bros. Interactive’s official community forums.

“After months of development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has come to the regrettable conclusion that we cannot release Mortal Kombat X for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360,” the publisher said. It also stated that the game is meant to be played with the high specs of current gen consoles.

“Please know our teams worked diligently to meet the quality standards set by the current-gen versions of the game. We were not able to get the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions to the quality expected of a Mortal Kombat game and are very sorry for not being able to deliver the products as originally planned,” the publisher added.

Both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game was set for a release in April. Later on, Warner Bros. moved the original release date to sometime in the summer. After failing to deliver the game at summer, it was reportedly delayed to fall until it was officially cancelled just recently.

Pre-orders for the previous gen versions were made available months ago. Playstation Lifestyle reports that all those who have already pre-ordered the game are entitled to a full refund.
