As the PS Vita's launch date moves closer, Sony has revealed more details about its next generation hand-held console.

The PS Vita will have a proprietary memory card that has many gamers complaining about the high cost. The memory cards will cost $24.99 for 4GB, $39.99 for 8GB, $69.99 for 16GB, and $119.99 for 32GB. The memory cards will not come with a purchase of the Vita.

Sony has defended the additional cost as a way of ensuring the security of the console. The company isn't planning to let gamers transfer and organize their files without Sony's content management program. This is a measure to discourage players who use their storage cards as mass storage devices for other files. Sony's previous PSP hand-held had memory sticks that users can plug into desktops without a special content management program. This open system allowed hackers to load custom firmware, get around security protections and load pirated games on PSPs.

Another gripe gamers will have against the proprietary storage cards is that the cards are absolutely essential for the PS Vita to work. Games like Uncharted: The Golden Abyss needs a memory card to save the game. There is no work-around to this. Gamers will have to cough up the extra dough to play games on the PS Vita.

Another function that the PS Vita will not have is the ability to surf the web and play games at the same time. Players will have to exit their game before they can browse the Internet. The console will still let gamers play music, add a Twitter post and access their friends list while playing games.

The PS Vita will not have full "remote play" compatibility with the PS3. Developers will still need to add support for it in each game. New releases could have this function but older games will have to be patched up. Another let down is the restriction to a single PSN account for every PS Vita unit. For gamers who like to share you'll either have to agree on a single PSN account or buy another PS Vita unit.

Two more games were added to the launch date games. The two games are a military shooter called Unit 13 from Zipper Interactive and an off-road racer from MotorStorm RC. They will join other launch titles like Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Wipeout 2048, Little Deviants, Reality Fighters, Top Darts, Hustle Kings, Escape Plan, Everybody's Golf, and ModNation Racers: Road Trip.

The PS Vita is set to be released in Australia on February 23, 2012. It will retail for $349.95 for the Wi-Fi version and $449.95 for the 3G version. It will have an OLED front touchscreen, rear touch pad, dual analog sticks, motion sensors and dual cameras.
