The unofficial user modding scene for the PC gaming community is known for its diligence, ingenuity and a penchant to deliver even when the actual game developers fail. The latest instalment in the "Resident Evil" franchise is a good example. After Capcom unceremoniously denied the local offline co-op option to PC gamers in "Revelations 2", a modder has come up with a solution.

A modder going by the handle FluffyQuack has managed to add offline co-op capability a few days after the release of the first episode. However, there's a catch. VG247 reports that the mod doesn't support the standard PC input method of keyboard and mouse at the moment. Using the keyboard during local co-op tends to control both players. In other words, the mod requires two gamepads to enable offline co-op.

Another known limitation is that the mod only works with the main campaign. Offline co-op functionality in the Raid mode still hasn't been implemented. However, the mod creator is currently working towards bringing local splitscreen co-op to the Raid mode as well. Going by the enthusiasm of PC modding community, it wouldn't be too far-fetched to expect the keyboard/mouse control issues to be fixed either by FluffyQuack or another modder in the near future.

The mod is implemented through Fluffy Manager 5000. It is free to download from TzarSectus.com, with detailed instructions posted on the mod's page on Steam. It is essentially a mod management tool created by FluffyQuack that works with various other user modifications as well. The tool works for other games such as "Resident Evil HD Remaster," " Resident Evil 4," "Resident Evil 5,"Resident Evil 6," "Resident Evil: Revelations" and "Devil May Cry 4."

As reported by Eurogamer, Capcom had initially advertised offline co-op capability on "Resident Evil: Revelations 2's" Steam description page, but irate fans later found out that the feature was missing in the actual release. Since then the company has apologised for the mistake and offered refunds to dissatisfied gamers.

This feat is especially remarkable because a lone independent hobbyist has managed to deliver something that was deemed impossible by one of the largest videogame makers. A video demonstrating the offline co-op mode in action can be viewed below.
