Josh Hamilton, previously from the Los Angeles Dodgers and who was traded recently to the Texas Rangers in one of the major transactions in Major League Baseball, or MLB, is progressing nicely from his injury and his new team is happy with his recovery and mindset so far.

"I like what I see from him, especially the eagerness to play," Rangers’ outfield instructor Dwayne Murphy said to Dallas Morning News. "I have to put the reins on him because he wants to do a lot more. That is good."

Hamilton is currently on a 15-day disabled list because of a right shoulder surgery early in February. He is expected to join the Triple A Round Rock for his injury rehabilitation assignment for 10 days before further evaluation on the injury. If everything goes on schedule, Hamilton is expected to join the Rangers’ rotation in mid-May.

Hamilton made the American League All-Star squad from 2008 to 2012 and won the league’s Most Valuable Player award in 2010. He signed a five-year $125 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2013 and played in L.A. for two years before being traded back to the Rangers in April 2015.

Hamilton underwent a shoulder injury in February 2015. While under recovery, it was reported that he had relapsed into his drug addiction. The Dodgers immediately announced that they planned to cut ties with Hamilton, who was then shipped to Texas.

For his career, Hamilton, who has missed a total of 320 games in his career because of the injury, has a batting average of .292 with 1,091 hits, 192 home runs and 676 RBIs.

“I’m happy with it. I’m trying to do all the stuff I usually do in spring training, so I can be ready to roll,” Hamilton said in the same article. “It’s continuing to know the situation in games, when it’s important to give your body up and when it’s not. I have to be smarter and keep my body off the ground as much as possible.”

The Rangers are off to a bad start in the 2015 MLB Season with 8 wins against 16 losses so far, last in the West division of the American League.
