The St. Louis Cardinals have signed veteran first baseman Dan Johnson to a minor league deal. The 35-year-old played for six different franchises since 2005 with his last stint with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2014. Ben Nicholson-Smith, the baseball editor for sportsnet.ca, first reported the update on Monday.

Johnson signed a minor league contract with the Houston Astros in December of 2014 and was later traded to the Cincinnati Reds but was released in April 2015. Johnson is not expected to start for the Cardinals but he is a welcome addition to their depth. Johnson played for the Oakland Athletics from 2005 to 2008, Tampa Bay Rays in 2008 and 2010 to 2011, Chicago White Sox in 2012, Baltimore Orioles in 2013 and recently with the Blue Jays.

Through the 2014 season, Johnson has a batting average of 0.236 with 47 home runs and 201 RBIs. The Cardinals are currently in first place in the Central Division of the National League with 19 wins in 25 games so far in the 2015 MLB Season.
