A 17-year-old contestant of the Miss World Australia contest is battling for her life after a head-on collision on Wednesday night. In critical condition is Elyse Miller-Kennedy, from Dimbulah, who represented Queensland in the beauty pageant in July.

Miller-Kennedy is at the Townsville Hospital, flown from Cairns. She is suffering from critical head injuries, reports News.com.au.

She was a finalist in the Miss World Australia 2016, but won in 2012 when she was 13 in the Face of Cairns competition. She is a student at the St Stephen’s Catholic College and signed up with Blak Model management.

Barbara Head, from Blak Model Management, says that Miller-Kennedy was about to finish Year 12 and planned to move interstate to pursue a modelling career. Although she got her driver’s licence five weeks ago before the accident, police said the crash was not her fault.

From the other vehicle, a man and woman from France were injured by the head-on collision, reports Skynews. The two were also hospitalised. The collision occurred at about 10 kilometres east of Dimbulah on the Mareeba-Dimbulah Road.

A fundraising campaign at mycause.com.au was opened to help the beauty queen’s family deal with the expenses. Head, also the manager of Miller-Kennedy, said there is a massive amount of community rallying around the injured beauty queen.
