Miss Universe 2013 is around the corner and the organizers are getting ready to choose their next beauty queen. But the times are not good for the outgoing Olivia Culpo, the reigning Miss Universe 2012 who has been embroiled in a controversy for allegedly shooting for a shoes brand in the premises of India's historic monument Taj Mahal.

The Indian government has prohibited using the heritage site for any commercial activity.

Culpo visited the Taj Mahal on Sunday evening with Indian fashion designer Sanjana Jon and her entourage and has been photographed by local newspapers sitting and trying out a certain brand of shoes. The local newspapers are reporting that the American beauty reportedly tried one pair of sandals and held the other one in her hand as she posed for pictures, with the Taj in the background.

The Indian law prohibits any kind of commercial activity in the premises of archaeologically protected monuments such as the Taj Mahal - as per the directives of the Supreme Court. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), responsible for the maintenance of the heritage sites, filed the complaint against the reigning Miss Universe and other local authorities who did not stop the celebrity from carrying out the shoot.

"Sandals (high heels) of a particular brand were taken out of the bag by someone in the group," says the ASI in their complaint.

"Culpo donned one of the sandals and held another in her hand, reportedly to advertise them while cameramen accompanying her shot the scene with the Taj in the background," it added.

The incident took place at the marble bench popularly known as the Diana Seat - the place where the late Princess Diana posed during her trip to the Taj in 1992.

The 21-year-old Culpo is in India to spread awareness about celebrating the girl child, women empowerment and preventing AIDS in India.

Culpo is currently dating Nick Jonas from Jonas brother and the couple celebrated Jonas' 21st birthday in Las Vegas, before she left for India.

The 2013 Miss Universe pageant will take place Saturday, Nov. 9 in Moscow. With less than a month left for the pageant to take place, do you think a complaint like this against the current Miss Universe will hamper the pageant in any way?
